Many minor injuries can be successfully treated at home (see also cuts and grazes and bruising and eye injuries) Here are a few tips and tricks:
- RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation and is the core treatment for sprains.
- Where a patient has walked or moved a joint right after an injury it is unlikely that there is a break even if the joint swells up later and walking becomes painful.
- Even where a toe is broken, if it looks fine, neighbour strapping is usually all it needs (put toes together with tape)
Where you feel unable to help yourself seek advice from NHS 111 or your GP, depending on the time of the day.
